An excellent Piacenza qualify for the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia Serie D by beating Sasso Marconi 2-0 at the Garilli, thanks to goals from Trombetta and Capelli.
Franzini gives starting places to Fantoni, Barba, Bassanini and Trombetta. After a superb save from Fantoni to deny Pepa, the hosts take the lead with Nicola Trombetta's first goal among the seniors, who breaks the deadlock with a left-footed strike along the ground. On 24 minutes the red-and-whites come within a whisker of the second: from a corner on the right, Bakayoko's header crashes against the crossbar and then Raffini is unable to follow up and put the ball in the net.
At the start of the second half, following a splendid move down the right wing, first Capelli (who came on for Raffini) and then Trombetta go close to making it 2-0. A few minutes later, Celeste is decisive again, first against Capelli and then against Trombetta's shot from distance. In the 65th minute Franzini's side are reduced to 10 men because of Panaioli's sending-off for two bookable offences, but the same fate befalls the visiting player Nunziati in the 77th minute. In the 82nd minute a one-two between Capelli and Bassanini allows the number 37 to break through on the right and offer the former Folgore Caratese striker the ball that seals the match.
Piacenza will be back in action on Sunday at 2:30pm at the Garilli for the home match against Nibbiano & Valtidone.
